Songbird is a cross-platform and open source media player which has been getting a lot of attention recently as a very good alternative for Apple’s iTunes. To read about all the features of Songbird, click here.

Installing Songbird on Ubuntu is quite easy. First go to and download the the .deb installation package. Make sure you download the proper package (for most users the 32-bit package would do just fine).

After you’ve downloaded the .deb package, double-click on it to start installation. Then click the Install Package button. You will be asked to enter your password. Once you enter it, the installation will begin.

When the installation is complete, you can open Songbird by going to Applications -> Sound & Video and selecting Songbird.
